#2: Clubhouse for Android is here!

After more than a year of the audio-only platform only being available to iOS users, Clubhouse released its Android app.

The platform will remain invite-only for now “to keep the growth measured” according to the company. They also stated that there are plans to begin migrating what it says are “millions of iOS users who have been waitlisted” while the company built the app’s infrastructure.

Due to its quick success, other companies are planning to launch similar audio features of their own. Like the Twitter Spaces feature, while Facebook, Spotify, Slack, LinkedIn, and Reddit are all at varying stages of adding similar audio-only features to their services.

The company noted that the downsides to this growth are that they have been focused on quote “hiring, fixing, and company building, rather than the community meetups and product features that we normally like to focus on.” Clubhouse has turned its attention to attracting creators to its platform and recently announced the results of an accelerator program which includes funding 50 audio shows on the platform.

#3: You can now APPLY for Twitter Verification

Ever craved that blue checkmark next to your name on Twitter? Now is your chance. Twitter announced that there is a new verification application system.

Only around 360,000 Twitter users hold a blue verification checkmark today. Now, it is for more than just people with millions of followers, this system they are rolling out aims to allow public figures and other accounts of high public interest to distinguish themselves with a checkmark that indicates they are who they say they are — like a government official, journalist, celebrity, brand or business, or another notable name. You can submit your application in the Account Settings tab. You’ll then receive an emailed response in one to four weeks. They say that applications are not automated but instead processed by a new team at Twitter, which is why things may be slow during busier times.

A few years back when they first began the verification system, the company was met with consumer confusion over what it meant to be verified. Originally, the checkmark was only meant to serve as an indicator that someone’s account was authentic, but many views verified accounts as having an elevated status on Twitter.

Going forward, to qualify for verification, Twitter users must fit the criteria of one of the six following categories:

  1. Government
  2. Companies, brands, and organizations
  3. News organizations and journalists
  4. Entertainment
  5. Sports and gaming
  6. Activists, organizer, and other influential individuals
